Benefits of Insulated Glass and Double Pane Windows

Year-round, insulated glass does the best job of keeping your home sealed. In the winter, it prevents cool air from seeping in, while in summer it blocks the heat. The result is more consistent temperatures within your home which help your heating and cooling units run more efficiently. Efficient windows save homeowners money and ensure their comfort.

How Insulate Glass Units Work

There are five components of IGUs. Each performs a specific function:

  • Glass Panes: Two panes of glass to block outside temperatures.

  • Spacer: The spacer performs a critical part in the IGU. It separates the panes of glass and can be filled with a moisture absorbing material (desiccant) or a warm edge spacer technology. The spacer is there to enhance thermal performance.

  • Air Space: The combination of the panes and spacer create the air space. Air spaces can be filled with argon or krypton gas for additional insulation.

  • Desiccant: A hygroscopic substance used for moisture absorbance.

  • Seal: A sealant is used around the entire perimeter to block moisture from getting into the space between the two panes.

    I highly recommend Glass Doctor. We have used them 4 times. Twice for our car window replacement, also installed a frameless glass shower wall and door and they installed a new glass replacement for our bedroom window. For the car window they came out to our home to replace and the other time we had to take the other car to the shop for them to replace. While at the shop I discovered they do frameless shower doors so when we decided to do that we called them. Luis Hernandez came out and did all the measurements and helped install when it came in. The 4th time we needed the glass replacement we got from the manufacturer of our home window installed and it was a no brainer to call them again. Luis Hernandez came out and installed the new glass for us. He’s alway professional, very nice and does a great job. You can tell he loves what he does and takes pride in his work. I know if we ever need any glass replacement who to call. Glass Doctor has always been great to work with.
