Insulated glass units, commonly called double or triple pane windows, are resistant to heat transfer. This makes your home more comfortable and energy-efficient. The IGU will keep the heat outside in the summer and stop warm air from escaping in winter. The result is reduced reliance on your heating and air conditioning system, and lower utility bills year-round.
How Double Pane Windows Work
To keep your home comfortable, the windows must be built to reduce temperature exchange. Double pane windows consist of two panes of glass with an insulating spacer in between. The spacer separates the panes and keeps the area between them sealed tightly. In many of our energy-efficient windows, the spacer is filled with a desiccant: a unique material that absorbs moisture to keep the seal secure and reduce condensation between the panes. The air between the panes of glass does not conduct temperature exchange as readily as a single pane of glass, so you will note an increased comfort immediately.
A seal is essential to the effectiveness of your double pane windows, so the edges of the entire window are sealed with high-grade sealant to keep moisture out. Additional insulation is provided in many of our windows with the addition of krypton or argon gas in the space between the panes.
